Black and dark websites, when utilized properly, can have stunning outcomes. Often the dark background is mixed with subtle glows and gradients to produce even more brilliant results. This was a great post for inspiration. I have not done a site yet that is for the most part all dark. My cousin has a band that this style would work perfectly for. It would mesh well with their whole image they are going for.
